A Morning View

A Morning View

Leica M-E, Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 pre-ASPH

We attended a 40th squadron reunion in San Diego, California over a week ago and stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel near Sea Port Village. Our five day stay was an incredible time with gorgeous weather and visiting with friends we hadn’t seen in a long time.

  1. Great colors and lighting. As someone who travels a lot this is a very nostalgic picture.

    1. Thanks Dave! I miss my lady when I’m on the road. It was a treat having her with me in San Diego! (By the way, your reply reminded me to sign up for your Facebook contest!)

  2. Great image and the colours are amazing! How do you find the 35mm lux?.. I’m considering one and judging by this photo it would be worth the money!

    1. Hi Dan, glad you stopped by. I was just checking your blog out. I’m shooting with a “pre-ASPH” 35 Lux made in the early 80s. (A Mandler design) As you can see above, the lens can be soft when shooting wide open as compared to the latest ASPH FLE version. Plus its very prone to flare, especially when wide open. Its a much different look than what you’re going to get as compared to your 50 ASPH Lux. It also uses Series 7 filters as it doesn’t have threads for a “normal” filter. Mine came with the original hood which holds the Series 7 filter and I’m able to put a 49mm ND filter there. I also shoot with a 50 pre-ASPH Lux. The lens is small compared to the latest FLE and does not block the finder. Having said all of that I would try to borrow one and shoot with it a couple days to see if it draws to your liking.

      1. Having said that you still are getting some amazing results with yours! Yeah could really do with trying some more lens out before I make my next purchase! I am so tempted by the 35mm lux asph but also got my eye on the smaller 35mm summicron.

        1. Just remember, once you own a good copy of any good popular Leica lens, don’t sell it. Better than owning gold.
